College of Computer Science and Technology is composed of five teaching units: Department of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, Computer Basic Education Center and Experimental Education Center. They are responsible for education of computer science and technology, computer science and technology (information network of power enterprises), software engineering and information security on the undergraduate level, as well as the education of basic computer science for students from all majors within the campus. The College has a second level master program Power Information Technology, two Shanghai leading academic discipline “Electric Power Enterprise Information and Decision Support” and “Information Technology in Smart Grid”, a discipline under Shanghai talent Heights “Computer Science and Technology”, an undergraduate program “National Excellent Engineers Education Plan”, “Computer Science and Technology” (Information Network of Power Enterprises), and two laboratories which were supported by both central and local government.
Our college has 62 teachers. They are young, energetic and have high level of education and great potential for development, including two Shanghai Oriental scholar Professors, three “Global Vision Lectures”, 25 professors and associate professors. Nearly 30 teachers have doctor degree. Many of them have been supported by the China Scholarship Council and the Shanghai Education Commission to get advanced studies at Waterloo University in Canada, and Berkeley University in United States etc.
The College adheres to the principle of combining teaching with scientific research; research interests are mainly in big data and smart grid areas, including pattern recognition and artificial intelligence, intelligent information processing technology, network security and privacy protection, wireless sensor network (WSN), and embedded computing, etc. Currently, the college obtains more than 40 projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Education, Key projects of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Innovation Action Plan and electric power enterprises commissioned research projects. The annual research budget is more than 5,000,000 RMB. More than 100 academic papers are published every year in important domestic and international academic journals; among them about 80 papers were indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. In the past three years, the college got 4 provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress awards, and applied tens of national invention patent and utility model patents. Meanwhile, the College actively promotes academic communication with foreign counterparts and cooperation. In recent years, 4 discipline of international academic conferences and 2 special committee meetings were held in Shanghai. Also, more than 20 distinguished abroad scholars have been invited to give lectures, thus, the cooperation and communication with domestic and foreign counterparts was strengthened.
The college has always attached great importance to the unity and integration of advanced vocational education with the actual production practice of enterprises, and actively promotes the construction of college students' science and technology innovation platforms. In recent years, several courses have won the title of “Quality Core Courses of Shanghai” and teaching achievement prizes. And personnel training quality is increasingly enhanced, the student’s employment prospect is good.
After nearly 20 years of development, the College of Computer Science and Technology has shaped its unique disciplines in electricity. An excellent team for the education of computer science has established. Thousands of computer specialized talents have been cultivated. Furthermore, series of new teaching and research achievements has been developed. College has strengthened its cooperation and communications with students and teachers in related areas from the world. Based on Shanghai with a global vision, the students and faculty in the College of Computer Science and Technology will be dedicated to building a research-based innovative college with the help of the Program for Discipline Build-up in Shanghai (085 Project).
