College of Automation Engineering

    The College of Automation Engineering has a profound historical background. Its predecessor, Instrument Group of Power Engineering Department was built at the beginning of the University foundation in 1952. Since 1990, the group has experienced Group of Information and Control Technology (1990-2004), School of Electric Power (2004-2012). To comply with the University development, the College of Automation Engineering was established independently on 2012. 

    The College of Automation Engineering has more than 60 academic staff for teaching and research ,of which 9 are professors, 27 are associate professor, 1 is Shanghai Outstanding Teacher and 24 are master’s supervisor. There are over 1200 undergraduates and 120 graduates in the college. 

    The College of Automation Engineering provides 2 undergraduate majors and 5 discipline areas including Automation (Power Plant Automation, Nuclear Power), Measuring and Control Instrument (Power Measurement and Control), in which Automation is among Specialty Major of the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Undergraduates Highland Project. Electrical Appliances and Motor, and Electrical System Detection & Control are second-level discipline master programs. The College also has Shanghai key discipline “Modern Power System and Power Plant Automation”, Shanghai municipal Education Commission key subject ”Electrical Safety and Energy Saving”, Shanghai Excellent Course “Automatic Control Principle” and “Digital Electric Technology”, and Shanghai English Teaching Model Course”Control System Simulation”. 

    The College of Automation Engineering has Shanghai Key Laboratory “Power Plant Automation Technology”, advanced discipline platform “Large Coal-fired Power Plant Integrated Automation System Platform” and “Power Virtual Simulation Center”. Power Station Automation Laboratory, Simulation Laboratory, Phoenix Fieldbus Laboratory, Nuclear Power Operation and Simulation Laboratory constitute lab group and scientific research base especially for power industry. 

    The College attaches great importance to scientific research. Several teachers have undertaken or participated in NSFC, 863 Projects and Specialized Research of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. The college has also taken on many research projects commissioned by various enterprises and institutions, and the scientific research fund has been increasing year by year. The college was awarded the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress in recent years. 

    Our College also pays great attention to innovation education. Innovation Application Practice Base entitled Freescale Intelligent Car Model has been established for years and a new education mode of student’s self-managing is now in exploration. Under this new mode, students have been awarded first and second prize more than ten times in national contest, such as Freescale Smart Car Model, National College Electronics Competition, “Siemens Cup” Industry Control System Simulation Competition for College Students, “Robot Cup” Competition and so on. 

    The College of Automation Engineering has always adhered to the education philosophy “Focusing on electric power, frontline, and application”, emphasized inheritance, and the improvement of discipline and faculty quality, teaching, scientific research and talents training. The College of Automation Engineering will make unremitting efforts for a high-quality and influential College with characteristics of electric power industry.
